by Sophia Bennett

A 24-year-old woman from Lady Lake was arrested for allegedly filing a false police report regarding the theft of a rented Tesla. Jakariya Jarnae Jackson contacted the Lady Lake Police Department around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, claiming that her dark gray Tesla Model 3 had been stolen from the parking lot of Lake North Apartments while she was sleeping.

Jackson submitted a sworn written statement, insisting that the vehicle was missing. However, she later tracked the car using an app, which indicated that it was located at the Wildwood Police Department. Upon contacting Wildwood PD, Lady Lake officers discovered that the Tesla had been seized due to its involvement in several criminal incidents.

Initially, Jackson maintained her story but eventually admitted that she had allowed a man to use the vehicle. She confessed that she was aware of who had the Tesla when she filed the police report, explaining that she woke up from a nap to find both the man and the car gone.

Jackson was booked into the Lake County Jail and later released after posting a $2,500 bond.
