A 30-year-old woman, identified as Pooja, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly assaulting her parents-in-law in Ajmer district, causing fractures to her father-in-law. The incident occurred on February 27, 2024, in Liri-ka Badiya village, located about 12 km from Ajmer city.
Pooja, who had been living at her parents’ house due to an ongoing dispute with her husband, Jai Singh, visited his house along with her brothers and three other individuals. The group reportedly attacked her in-laws with sticks, severely injuring them. The father-in-law, Devi Singh Rawat, had to be admitted to JLN Hospital for treatment after suffering a fracture in his legs from the attack.
Jai Singh was not present at the time of the assault, as he was away working. Upon learning about the attack from the villagers, Singh rushed back home and took his injured parents to the hospital. His mother, Moti, and his sister were also reportedly beaten during the incident.
Viral Video Leads to ArrestThe incident was captured in a video that went viral on social media, aiding the police in identifying Pooja and the others involved in the attack. The video showed the brutal assault on Singh’s parents, which led to public outrage and quick action from the authorities.
Pooja and Jai Singh married in 2016 and have two children, an eight-year-old daughter and a four-year-old son, both of whom are currently living with Pooja’s parents. The domestic dispute that led to Pooja moving back to her parent’s home was cited as the reason for the attack.
Investigation and ArrestAfter registering the FIR, the police arrested Pooja as the primary accused. They are continuing efforts to locate and arrest the other individuals who were part of the assault. The case has highlighted the escalating tensions within the family, leading to violent outcomes.
