Woman Arrested at Miami Airport for Taking Child from Mother

Alvina Agba charged with battery, interference of custody

A woman was arrested Tuesday morning at Miami International Airport after she took a 4-year-old boy from his mother and refused to return him, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

The mother and her son were in line at a check-in counter when 23-year-old Alvina Agba approached and offered to help calm the crying child. The mother allowed Agba to hold her son, but police said Agba then walked away from the mother while still holding the boy.

When the mother followed and asked for her son back, Agba reportedly said, “No, this is my child,” while holding the boy tightly with her arms and legs. Police said Agba pushed the mother away and refused to release the child.

Bystander Naylet Montano rushed to the scene and intervened, protecting the boy by crouching behind the counter. Agba attempted to retrieve the child but was blocked by Montano and several other men until police arrived.

Agba was later found at Checkpoint 5 and taken into custody. During questioning, she claimed she was trying to soothe the child and said, “She only did it because God told her to do it.”

She faces charges of battery and interference of custody.
