A woman has accused six individuals, including two officials from HDFC Bank, of defrauding her of Rs 1.3 crore under the guise of making investments. The woman, a resident of Sector 74 and wife of a retired lieutenant colonel, filed a complaint on April 4. She alleged that the accused, which include the operational manager and a senior banker at HDFC Bank, deceived her into investing her money with false promises.
According to the complaint, the woman held joint accounts with her late husband at HDFC Bank, Sector 18. After his passing, she continued managing the accounts with assistance from the bank’s relationship manager, Ashish Chandra, who was assigned to her as a priority account holder. The complainant explained that her husband had created Fixed Deposit Receipts (FDRs) and investments during his lifetime, and after their maturity, the funds were transferred into their joint accounts.
The woman claimed that when she received the matured amounts, she was contacted by Ashish Chandra, who made her speak to another individual, Vikas Kumar Gupta. Gupta proposed various investment schemes that promised future gains. To proceed with the investments, the bank employees allegedly took blank signed cheques from her, claiming that the amount, along with the related documents, would be provided upon completion of the investment. However, the complainant stated that despite receiving a list of investments, she never received the corresponding documents.
In her FIR, the woman mentioned that she now fears for her life and that of her family, as she believes there may be a threat from the accused.
Ashish Chandra and his wife, Kritika Prasad, were arrested in connection with the fraud case, and police are continuing their investigation into the involvement of other bank officials.
