TOWN OF STOCKHOLM, N.Y. — A 46-year-old Winthrop man has been arrested in connection with the theft of a commercial excavator last year.

Darin Collins was taken into custody by New York State Police on Friday for allegedly stealing a Komatsu excavator from a worksite on County Route 48 in Stockholm in October 2025. Collins faces a charge of third-degree grand larceny.

According to authorities, troopers first responded to the reported theft on October 9 and attempted to track the excavator using its GPS system. The system lost connection at approximately 6:44 p.m. the day the theft was reported.

Investigators later located the excavator in Snye, Quebec, on the Canadian portion of the Akwesasne Reservation. State police coordinated with Tribal Police during the recovery and investigation, determining that Collins was responsible for both the theft and transportation of the machinery.

An arrest warrant was issued, and Collins was arraigned in Town of Louisville Court before being remanded to St. Lawrence County Jail without bail.
