ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — A man has been charged with first-degree burglary and multiple counts of identity theft after allegedly stealing debit and credit cards from a family member’s home in Halifax County.
According to a press release from Major Anzell M. Harris of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. N. Estes responded to a residence near Highway 125 and Quiet Circle on June 30 in response to a reported breaking and entering and larceny.
Following the initial investigation, Detective Sgt. B. Edmondson identified the suspect as William Tyrone Biggs Jr., 49, the victim’s son. Authorities allege that Biggs entered the locked home in the early morning hours, accessed the victim’s wallet, and stole multiple debit and credit cards.
Surveillance footage showed Biggs using the stolen cards at several locations in the Roanoke Rapids area. He later confessed to the theft during questioning, investigators said.
Biggs was charged with first-degree burglary and seven counts of identity theft. He was booked into custody under a $100,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 24.
