Memphis Man Charged in $5,000 Eyeglass Frame Theft in Paragould

PARAGOULD, Ark. (KAIT) – A Memphis man, William L. Downey III, 44, is facing serious charges after allegedly participating in the theft of multiple eyeglass frames valued at over $5,000 from a Walmart Vision Center in Paragould, Arkansas.

According to court documents, Downey has been charged with theft of property and breaking or entering after surveillance footage captured him and 40-year-old Camille Martin trying on several glasses and then concealing frames before exiting the store without paying.

Authorities confirmed that both suspects are tied to multiple eyewear thefts across Arkansas and Tennessee. Martin was arrested on October 7, 2024, under similar charges, while Downey remains in custody on a $25,000 cash/surety bond.

The incident occurred at the Walmart on Kingshighway, and Paragould police say investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the retail crime spree.
