AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WJBF) — An Aiken man has been arrested for allegedly running a chop shop after authorities recovered several stolen vehicles and parts from a property on Dougherty Road.

On August 11th, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office shared information about a stolen vehicle with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded to the 900 block of Dougherty Road, where they discovered what investigators described as a fully operational chop shop.

Multiple high-end stolen Dodge Chargers and assorted vehicle components, believed to be taken from jurisdictions across the CSRA, were recovered at the scene.

William Hurt, 28, of Aiken, was arrested and charged with operating a chop shop. Investigators say additional charges against Hurt are likely as the case remains under active investigation.

The operation involved support from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
