GREENVILLE, N.C. — A Greenville man has been arrested in connection with alleged fraud and resisting a public officer, according to court records and arrest warrants.
38-year-old William Kenneth Hopkins was taken into custody on Jan. 4, 2026, by the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office. He faces charges of resisting a public officer, obtaining property by false pretense, and failing to work after being paid.
According to a Carteret County arrest warrant, the alleged fraud occurred around Sept. 7, 2025. Hopkins is accused of unlawfully obtaining approximately $20,000 in personal checks from a victim with the intent to defraud. He allegedly promised to purchase materials and install a mini-split system in the victim’s home but failed to perform the work while taking advance payments.
A separate Pitt County warrant alleges that Hopkins resisted, delayed, and obstructed a public officer by running away while the officer attempted to serve warrants.
Hopkins remains in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $12,000 secured bond, according to online court records.
