William Harris Arrested in $153K Inheritance Scam

67-year-old Denver man charged with felony theft

by Amelia Crawford

William “Billy” Harris, a 67-year-old man from Denver, has been arrested on suspicion of felony theft after allegedly scamming a victim out of $153,000 through a fake inheritance scheme.

The arrest was made by the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, which began investigating the case in June 2025 after receiving a report from the victim—an adult male who said he was introduced to Harris by a family friend in January.

According to investigators, Harris convinced the victim that he had inherited millions of dollars from a wealthy family member but needed to pay taxes before accessing the funds. Over a six-month period, the victim withdrew and delivered cash to various locations across Larimer County and Denver, believing the money was necessary to “unlock” the inheritance.

By June, the victim grew suspicious and began researching Harris, eventually contacting authorities. The investigation revealed the entire story was fabricated, and the victim had been defrauded of approximately $153,500.

Harris was arrested on June 30, 2025, and booked into the Larimer County Jail on suspicion of class three felony theft (amounts between $100,000 and $1,000,000).

Investigators believe there may be additional victims in the surrounding area and are urging anyone with relevant information to contact the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.

The case remains under active investigation.
