Wilkes-Barre Standoff Leads to Arrest After Threats and Road Closure
WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A standoff in Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday afternoon prompted a temporary road closure as police dealt with a tense situation involving a man who had threatened officers.
According to authorities, the incident began on November 19 around 2:00 p.m., when police were called to Terrace Street to serve an eviction order to 62-year-old Robert Gronski. Gronski, who was refusing to leave the residence, allegedly threatened to shoot deputies from the Luzerne County Sheriff’s Department and release his dogs on them.
Gronski reportedly confronted officers several times, shouting at them to “stay off his property” and using foul language. Investigators later learned that Gronski had access to multiple firearms, including long guns, as well as several aggressive dogs at the scene.
After several hours, police successfully ended the standoff, and Gronski was taken into custody. He now faces charges of making terrorist threats.
