GREENVILLE – A Greenville man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison, with 20 years to serve and 10 on supervised release, following a string of violent crimes.

Wilbur Smith, 41, pleaded guilty in May to two counts of armed robbery, attempted murder, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The charges stem from incidents that occurred just four days apart in 2023.

One robbery took place at a package store in the 1300 block of Highway 82. According to investigators, Smith fled the scene on foot with cash visibly falling from his pockets. As a witness tried to follow him, Smith fired a gun in their direction.

During that investigation, police linked Smith to another armed robbery at a store on Edison Street, reported days earlier. Surveillance footage and photo evidence confirmed his involvement in both crimes.

Smith’s sentencing marks the conclusion of a case involving dangerous repeat offenses and illegal firearm possession by a convicted felon.
