WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) — A Wichita man, Angelo Pereya, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for his involvement in trafficking stolen human body parts from Wesley Medical Center.
Court documents reveal that Pereya, who worked in the pathology department, stole stillborn and miscarried babies’ remains from the hospital and sold them online to Andrew Ensanian. The illegal activity took place between May 2018 and July 2022. Pereya communicated with Ensanian using eBay and Facebook Messenger and used the U.S. Postal Service to ship human remains, including fetal corpses, organs, and other body parts.
The sales, which totaled over $5,000, were made through PayPal. The “wet-specimens” included human hearts, livers, brains, kidneys, and even body parts such as feet, testicles, and dried toes.
Pereya pleaded guilty to interstate transportation of stolen goods in June 2024, agreeing to make full restitution. This case is part of a broader investigation into the trafficking of stolen human remains across the nation. Multiple people, including Ensanian, have been charged or pleaded guilty as a result of this investigation.
Prosecutors stressed that trafficking human remains is a dark trade that often operates in the shadows, and Pereya’s conviction sends a strong message that such crimes will not be tolerated.
