WORKINGTON, Cumbria — A 37-year-old man from Whitehaven has been sentenced after admitting to possessing indecent images of children, including images of a child as young as three years old.
Glynn Davies, of The Crescent, Bransty, was arrested at his workplace following a tip-off to Cumbria Police from an external law enforcement agency. Officers seized three mobile phones, all of which were found to contain child abuse material.
At Workington Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, Davies pleaded guilty to:
37 Category A images (the most severe)
15 Category B images
34 Category C images
Prosecutor Pamela Fee told the court the investigation was triggered by intelligence about downloads traced to Davies’ home. The analysis of his devices uncovered a small number of images, but some featured victims as young as three or four.
Davies gave “no comment” interviews to police but did not contest the charges in court.
Defense solicitor John Cooper said his client had no prior convictions, had lost his job and family support due to the arrest, and noted that the total number of images was comparatively low.
The magistrates sentenced Davies to:
12-month custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months
250 hours of unpaid work
15 days of rehabilitation activity
Registration as a sex offender for 10 years
Seven-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order
£85 in court costs and £184 victim surcharge
Magistrates noted there was a “realistic prospect of rehabilitation”, which factored into their decision to suspend the prison term.
