The West Agartala Police successfully busted a gang involved in multiple thefts and robberies across the state by arresting four notorious criminals during a late-night operation near the Agartala-Bangladesh border on Monday night.
The arrested have been identified as Shakil Mia, Mintu Rudra Pal, Juton Mia, and Amar Das.
A senior police officer called the operation a major achievement ahead of Durga Puja, highlighting the bravery and professionalism of the Agartala Police. “Our jurisdiction covers around 11 kilometers near the Bangladesh border, and we remain vigilant against both cross-border and local crimes,” the officer added.
Acting on specific intelligence, a special operation was launched after the West Agartala Police Station received information about a group of miscreants known for thefts and robberies gathering near the border. The suspects tried to flee when police arrived, but officers bravely chased and apprehended two of them. The others were arrested later in Bishalgarh based on the information provided by the first two.
During the operation, one constable was injured but continued with determination to help secure the arrests.
This gang was active in Agartala, Udaipur, and Bishalgarh, mainly targeting elderly residents by breaking into homes, stealing motorbikes, and committing various robberies.
Police recovered three stolen motorbikes and gold ornaments from the accused. Two suspects have been sent to remand, with the remaining two to be sent shortly.
The police remain alert and capable of handling crimes in their border jurisdiction with complete professionalism and expect further leads as interrogations continue.
