WAYNE, Mich. — A terrifying situation ended safely Sunday night after three children were found unharmed following a vehicle theft in Wayne, Michigan. Police arrested 25-year-old Bryant Lamont Brown II, who is now facing charges.
The incident unfolded at approximately 11 p.m. on May 18, when the mother of the children briefly stopped at a store to pick up groceries. During that time, her blue Chevy Avalanche was stolen — with her 3-year-old child and 18-month-old twins still inside.
Police were quickly notified via Central Dispatch, and a region-wide alert was sent out with a description of the vehicle. Within minutes, the vehicle was spotted parked in Dearborn Heights by an undercover Dearborn police detective, who observed the suspect getting in and out of it.
Just one minute later, a 911 caller reported hearing children crying in a parking lot near Middlebelt and Grandview in Inkster, about two miles from where the suspect was seen. Officers rushed to the scene and found the three children still in their car seats and unharmed.
Emergency medical personnel evaluated the children on site, and they were safely reunited with their mother.
Bryant Lamont Brown II was arrested at the scene. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has charged him with:
One count of unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle (5-year felony)
Brown was arraigned on May 21, 2025, in the 29th District Court and is scheduled for a probable cause conference on May 27 at 1:15 p.m. He is currently held at the Wayne County Jail on a $100,000 cash or surety bond.
Wayne police have not announced additional charges related to child endangerment but emphasized that rapid coordination across multiple agencies led to a quick and safe resolution.
