Shelby Township, Mich. – Wayne Bowers, a resident of Macomb County, was arrested on Friday, Sept. 6, for what authorities say is his seventh operating while intoxicated (OWI) offense.
Shelby Township police pulled Bowers over near 23 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue after noticing an unregistered license plate. Upon approach, officers reported a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle.
After failing a field sobriety test, Bowers was taken into custody. A search of the vehicle revealed cocaine in the center console and a stolen license plate registration.
On Monday, Sept. 8, Bowers was officially charged with:
Operating while intoxicated – third offense (felony)
Possession of a controlled substance
Driving while license suspended – second offense
Operating an unregistered vehicle
Due to his history of offenses, bond was set at $500,000.
