a horrifying case of domestic violence, Wasim Rafiq Shaikh (26) was arrested for strangling his wife, Gaushiya Wasim Shaikh (25), to death in front of their two children after she allegedly refused to give him money to buy alcohol.
The crime occurred on Monday morning at their residence in Bhagat Singh Nagar No. 2, Goregaon West. According to the Bangur Nagar Police, the victim’s father lodged a complaint around 9:48 AM, reporting that his daughter had been murdered by her husband.
Police said Wasim fled the scene after the murder and informed his mother-in-law about the act via phone before switching off his mobile. He was traced while trying to escape via local trains, prompting deployment of officers at key railway stations.
A breakthrough came when the police apprehended him near Ram Mandir railway station. During interrogation, Wasim confessed to the crime.
The arrest was made within two hours, under the supervision of Additional Commissioner of Police Shashikant Meena, DCP Anand Bhoite, and ACP Hemant Sawant. The operation involved PI Anil Thakre, PI Amit Shitole, and APIs Vivek Tambe, Sanjay Sarolkar, Randhe, Bankar, and Mulgir.
