ARLINGTON, VA – Alexander Alexeyev, a 25-year-old defenseman for the Washington Capitals, was arrested early Saturday morning after being involved in a fight in Arlington, Virginia.

Fight and Arrest Details
Just before 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, officers patrolling the Clarendon neighborhood were flagged down by a witness who reported a fight. When officers arrived on the scene, they observed Alexeyev fighting with another man. Police said they saw Alexeyev assault the other individual during the altercation.

Officers used pepper spray to subdue Alexeyev before taking him into custody. He was treated at the scene for minor injuries, according to authorities.

Statement from the Capitals
The Washington Capitals have acknowledged the incident. A team spokesperson said, “We are aware of the situation involving Alexander Alexeyev and in the process of gathering additional information.”

Recent Injury
This incident comes just a few weeks after Alexeyev suffered a significant injury during the Caps’ first-round playoff series against Montreal. He lost three teeth following a high-stick incident during a game.

Alexeyev faces charges of public intoxication, and further details on the case are expected as the investigation continues.
