Srinagar, J&K – In a swift breakthrough, Srinagar Police have arrested one person and recovered stolen gold items worth approximately Rs12 lakh in connection with a high-profile burglary case reported from Nowhatta.
The case came to light after Mohammad Yousuf Rather, a resident of Wantpora, Rajouri Kadal, lodged a formal complaint at Police Station Nowhatta, alleging that his house was broken into during his absence. The burglars reportedly ransacked the premises and made off with gold ornaments valued in lakhs.
Upon registration of FIR No. 51/2025 under Sections 305 and 331 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was immediately formed under the supervision of the SHO Nowhatta. Using a mix of technical surveillance and local intelligence, police identified Waseem Ahmad Kaloo, son of Ghulam Qadir Kaloo, from Chattabal, as the prime suspect.
During questioning, Kaloo confessed to the crime, leading to the recovery of gold jewellery worth nearly Rs12 lakh from his possession. He has since been formally arrested and remains in police custody.
Authorities have not ruled out the involvement of additional individuals. Further investigation is ongoing to determine whether Kaloo acted alone and to locate any unrecovered property.
The Srinagar Police issued a statement reaffirming their commitment to curbing social crimes like theft and burglary. “We remain vigilant and determined to bring such cases to their logical conclusion,” the department said.
Residents of Nowhatta have welcomed the prompt police action, urging continued vigilance to prevent such incidents in the future.
