AUSTIN, Texas — A 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder following a fatal shooting in northwest Austin.
According to the Austin Police Department (APD), officers responded just after midnight on May 29 to a shooting report at the Westdale Point Apartments on Wood Hollow Drive. They found 25-year-old Noah Talbott with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and died the next day, May 30.
Investigators determined that Talbott and the suspect, identified as Waleed Beriji, had been arguing over money prior to the shooting. Police say Talbott walked Beriji to the front door of his apartment, at which point Beriji allegedly pulled a gun from his bag and shot him before fleeing the scene.
Beriji was later located on South Congress Avenue and taken into custody. Initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, his charges were upgraded to first-degree murder after Talbott’s death.
