Wagholi police have arrested three men for allegedly hacking multiple credit cards and using the details to purchase expensive cellphones and other items from various e-commerce websites.
The accused were identified as Aslam Mofid Khan (22) of Kaimur, Bihar, and Adib Rizwan Khan (21) and Farhan Ibrahim Unwala (25) of Surat, Gujarat. Police recovered 45 high-end cellphones worth Rs 12 lakh from their possession.
The arrests were carried out between September 8 and 9 by a team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IV) Somay Munde, assisted by Senior Inspector Yuvraj Hande and Inspector Asaram Shete.
Police began investigating after Indian Army soldier Karimul Khussamud Ali Islam (32) of Wagholi reported that a fraudster had hacked his credit card and used it to buy a cellphone worth Rs 1.1 lakh. The soldier revealed that he had received a message with a remote access software link prompting him to fill in his credit card details. Shortly afterward, the card stopped functioning, and the phone was ordered online.
The delivery was traced to a pharmacy shop on Wagholi-Kesnand Road. CCTV footage helped police identify the e-commerce agent and the person who accepted the parcel. Tracking leads to Kesnand, Bakori, Kharadi, and Chandannagar, the police arrested Khan and Adib on September 8, and Unwala the next day.
Police revealed that the trio would randomly send messages containing a malicious .apk file, prompting victims to enter credit card information, which they then misused for online purchases.
