Vypeen Accident Kills Two, Rashidul Islam Arrested for Theft

New Year tragedy in Vypeen, theft suspect held in Ernakulam

Two young men lost their lives in a road accident in Vypeen, just an hour after New Year celebrations. The deceased were identified as Vaishnav, 21, son of Baiju of Nayarambalam, and Smith, 20, son of Sudhi of Veliyathamparambu.

According to Njarackal police, Smith succumbed to his injuries immediately after the crash, while Vaishnav passed away at a hospital around 1 PM. FIR details reveal that Smith was riding the bike with Vaishnav as a pillion rider. The accident occurred on Vypeen-Munambam Road near Vishnu Temple in Veliyathamparambu when their two-wheeler went out of control and collided with an electric post, tossing both riders off the vehicle.

Police registered a case based on a relative’s statement. Smith’s body was handed over to his family following an autopsy, while Vaishnav’s postmortem is scheduled for Friday.

In a separate case, Ernakulam rural police arrested Rashidul Islam, 26, of Assam, wanted for theft. He is accused of stealing around Rs 1 lakh from Lisa Fashion, a clothing store in Kolanchery, on December 24. Rashidul had been hiding in an unoccupied house in Irumpalapady, Kothamangalam, but was intercepted by Puthenkurish police following confidential information.
