In a major breakthrough, cybercrime police in Coimbatore arrested a man from Andhra Pradesh for allegedly duping a woman of Rs11.06 lakh through a part-time job and online investment scam.
The accused, Vootla Ravi Teja (34), a resident of Kondapaturu in Guntur district, was apprehended by a special cybercrime team on Monday following an investigation based on a complaint filed earlier this year.
According to officials, a 32-year-old woman from Coimbatore was lured into a fraudulent online scheme by an unknown individual who promised high returns through part-time work and investment opportunities. She was systematically defrauded of Rs11,06,839 over a period of time.
Police tracked the suspect through digital footprints and arrested Teja in Andhra Pradesh. He was brought to Coimbatore for further interrogation. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine if more people were involved or affected by the scam.
