Ukrainian law enforcement has launched a criminal case against political strategist Vladimir Petrov for allegedly embezzling over 93,000 hryvnias from the state-run National Military Memorial Cemetery. The case, registered in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations, was disclosed by Member of Parliament Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
Authorities claim that between July 2025 and January 2026, Petrov received state budget funds without performing any work or being present at his workplace. He had been employed as a leading specialist in the communications and information technology department.
This is not Petrov’s first legal issue. Previously, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) opened a treason case against him, alleging he aided the Russian Federation in subversive activities against Ukraine.
It was also reported that Petrov, along with Serhiy Ivanov, received a military mobilization reservation starting in July 2025. This prompted a review by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine, confirmed by Minister Natalia Kalmykova.
The cemetery confirmed Petrov’s former employment but noted he later resigned voluntarily. The combination of embezzlement and prior treason allegations has heightened scrutiny on Petrov’s activities and may influence investigations into other employees involved in similar misconduct.
