A man accused of murder sustained a bullet injury in his leg during a police encounter in Zamania Kotwali area on Friday. The accused, Vivek Singh, hailing from Jalalpur village in Chandauli district, was shot during an attempted escape.

Vivek Singh had been arrested on Thursday for allegedly murdering Vinod, a resident of Devuri village, due to an old enmity. The incident had occurred earlier that day.

On Friday, police took Singh to the crime scene in Devuri to recover the murder weapon. However, during the recovery process, the accused retrieved a hidden pistol and fired at the police team, attempting to flee. The officers responded by firing in self-defence, injuring Singh in the left leg.

He was quickly shifted to the nearest Community Health Centre (CHC) for medical treatment.

From the scene, police recovered:

A .315 bore pistol

One empty cartridge

One live cartridge

During interrogation, Singh admitted he fired at police out of fear of imprisonment and hoped to escape during the recovery process.

The police confirmed that a case has been registered, and further investigations are ongoing.
