Ballia, Uttar Pradesh – In a major crackdown on inter-state narcotics trafficking, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF), in coordination with Ballia police, arrested two suspects and seized 826.9 kg of ganja valued at Rs82.7 lakh.
The arrests were made late Wednesday night near Bharouli Golambar in Narhi, where the team intercepted a suspicious truck. Upon inspection, officers discovered that the cannabis was hidden behind large sofa sets in the vehicle.
The arrested individuals were identified as:
Vishnu Kharwar – the truck driver
Sukur Ali – resident of Assam
Both accused reportedly confessed to sourcing the illegal ganja from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh at lower prices, intending to resell it in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar for profit.
Authorities suspect a larger smuggling network is involved, and further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and other associates.
The duo will be charged under the NDPS Act (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act), and police have initiated legal proceedings.
