Indore Police arrested two interstate criminals, Vishal Shera (48) and Pramod Sen (50), who allegedly duped an employee of Jhanzaria Jewellers and stole gold worth over Rs10.50 lakh on September 19.
The investigation began after a complaint of fraud and robbery was filed at Lasudia Police Station. Using CCTV footage and technical evidence, police traced the suspects who initially fled towards Bhopal and later boarded the Delhi-bound Shatabdi Express. Acting on intelligence, the GRP Gwalior team intercepted the duo at Gwalior railway station, recovering the looted jewellery.
Officials revealed that the accused had also targeted Nanabhai Jewellers in Indore using a similar modus operandi but escaped before staff arrived. Their arrest not only solved the Jhanzaria Jewellers case but also exposed a wider network of jewellery cons across multiple cities.
Vishal Shera reportedly has a criminal history, with prior cases under cheating and theft charges in Delhi. The operation was led by Inspector Taresh Soni of Lasudia police, with key support from GRP Gwalior Inspector Babita Kataria and her team. Police stated that further interrogation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of their criminal operations.
On the day of the heist, one of the accused posed as a physically disabled man named Kewal Gupta and convinced the jeweller’s staff to send pictures of ornaments via WhatsApp. He selected two gold chains and two bangles and asked for them to be delivered the next morning. Trusting his story, the employee arrived at the designated location, only to see the accused fleeing in a grey hatchback with his accomplice.
