A 21-year-old man from Nalanda, Bihar, named Vishal was arrested on Monday for allegedly duping a senior citizen from Kizhakkambalam, Kerala, of Rs 25 lakh under the pretext of arranging a bank loan.
According to police, Vishal approached the victim via social media, claiming he could facilitate a Rs 50 lakh loan from a nationalised bank. Trusting the offer, the victim transferred Rs 25 lakh to Vishal, who then severed all contact.
Following a police complaint, a special investigation team under ASP Shakti Singh Arya, supervised by district police chief M Hemalatha, was formed. CPO-ranked officer Shibu detailed that the team traced the accused using scientific investigation techniques and arrested him from a remote village in Nalanda, Bihar. He was brought back to Kerala for further proceedings.
Preliminary findings suggest that Vishal may be part of a larger fraud network, and several others may have been scammed in a similar manner.
