A Wyoming County, West Virginia, man has been sentenced to prison after admitting to stealing property earlier this year.

Virgil Eugene “Hootie” Cline, 46, of Oceana, was sentenced to one to three years in prison following his conviction for attempt to commit a felony on October 22, 2025, according to Wyoming County Prosecuting Attorney Derek Laxton.

The case originated from a July 21, 2025, investigation by Chief Tyler Dunigon of the Oceana Police Department, who recovered a weed eater and a leaf blower from beneath the Oceana Library. Later that day, a victim reported the same items stolen from a storage unit in town.

During the investigation, authorities learned that Cline had attempted to sell similar equipment. He later gave a voluntary statement admitting to taking both items.

Cline has been remanded to the West Virginia Division of Corrections to serve his prison sentence.
