A man named Virendra, wanted in connection with the double murder of Gudia Devi (45) and Gorelal (42), was arrested early Wednesday morning following a police encounter, officials confirmed.
Virendra sustained a bullet injury to his leg during the incident and was immediately hospitalised.
According to Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar, the bodies of the couple were discovered three days ago in Gauhani village, falling under the Charwa police station jurisdiction. Gudia Devi had left her husband to live with her parents, while Gorelal’s wife had also returned to her family.
Police investigations, aided by electronic surveillance, identified two suspects: Virendra and Shiv Babu, both from Malka village.
Acting on a tip-off, police tracked Virendra to an area near a poultry farm. Upon being surrounded, Virendra reportedly fired at police officers in an attempt to escape. Law enforcement returned fire, injuring him in the right leg before taking him into custody.
During the arrest, authorities recovered a country-made pistol (.315 bore) and a live cartridge from Virendra. He has been admitted to the district hospital for treatment.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the second suspect, Shiv Babu.
