In a major breakthrough, the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police, in collaboration with the Maharashtra Police, arrested Vinod Kumar, a murder accused who had been on the run for 26 years.
Vinod Kumar, a resident of Parsahetim village in Siddharthnagar district, was wanted for committing a murder in Thane, Maharashtra on May 28, 1999. He had been absconding ever since.
The long-time fugitive was finally apprehended on Tuesday afternoon from his native village during a coordinated operation by the two state police forces.
The arrest brings closure to a decades-old case and showcases the effectiveness of inter-state police collaboration in tracking down long-absconding criminals.
