Delhi: The Delhi Police arrested Vimal Bhat alias Sonu, a resident of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly impersonating an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer to deceive people in East Delhi. Bhat had been on the run after being declared a proclaimed offender in a case dating back to 2017.
The arrest took place on January 29 at the Patparganj Industrial Area, according to police sources. Investigations revealed that Bhat posed as an IPS officer with the IB, using a fake identity card to project himself as a senior intelligence official.
Police said Bhat would travel in a vehicle fitted with “POLICE” stickers, a siren, and a loud hailer, creating the impression of official authority and instilling fear among the public. Authorities are investigating further to determine if Bhat deceived additional victims during his impersonation.
