In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Navi Mumbai Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) busted a heroin racket in Vashi’s Koprigaon area, seizing heroin worth Rs 1.35 crore and arresting one accused while searching for seven others linked to a Punjab-based supply chain.
The raid on November 19 followed a tip-off about drug activity. Vikramjitsingh Amriksingh (34) from Amritsar, Punjab, who was staying at Parshuram Patil building in Vashi, was arrested during the operation.
Police recovered 271.8 grams of heroin allegedly stored for local distribution. Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gunjal said the drugs were procured from Punjab in bulk and sold across Navi Mumbai, with payments made in cash and Google Pay.
Senior Police Inspector Sandeep Nigde noted that the seizure reveals a deeper inter-state drug network. Investigations are ongoing to trace all links and dismantle the supply chain completely.
The hunt continues for seven individuals, including the main Punjab supplier and local buyers connected to Vikramjitsingh. He remains in police custody until November 26.
The raid was carried out under Assistant Commissioner Prerna Katte, with a team including PI Nigde, officers Ramesh Tayde, Bankar, Dore, Satish Mehetar, Ganesh Pawar, Ankush Mhatre, Hemangi Patil, Pagare, Parmeshwar Bhabad, and Patil.
