Thane, Maharashtra – In a swift operation, the Thane Police Crime Branch Unit-1 has arrested five men from Kerala for robbing a Mumbra resident of Rs30 lakh in cash near Thane railway station on February 21, 2025.
The robbery occurred at around 7:15 PM, when the 43-year-old victim was on his way home from his workplace in Kalbadevi, Mumbai, carrying a bag with Rs30 lakh. He was attacked in the parking area near Thane station by four assailants.
“One of them sprayed a chemical on the victim’s face to incapacitate him, while the others snatched the cash-filled bag and fled the scene,” said DCP (Crime) Amar Singh Jadhav.
The arrested accused have been identified as:
Vignesh Poken K (31) – Wayanad
Suhat Moiuddin Khoya TP (31) – Calicut
Prabul Dev Premkumar Pullivata (27) – Kannur
Akhil Krishna PV (27) – Kannur
Subilesh K Balkrishnan (32) – Kozhikode
Police have recovered Rs10.5 lakh in cash and valuables from the accused and are continuing efforts to trace the remaining amount. Preliminary investigations suggest the gang may be involved in other similar crimes across the region.
The case highlights growing concerns about inter-state criminal gangs targeting individuals carrying large sums in urban transit zones.
