PEGI, FCT — Two men were apprehended by vigilantes after allegedly attempting to steal iron rods from a building under construction in the Pegi community of Kuje Area Council, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The suspects, identified as Zayyanu Ibrahim and Awwalu Usman, were caught early Sunday around 5:47 a.m., according to Enoch Samuel, a member of the local vigilante group. The building was reportedly unguarded at the time, as the security officer had stepped away to perform Subhi prayers.

Samuel said the suspects quietly approached the back of the property and tried to remove two iron rods. However, the security guard noticed them upon returning and immediately raised an alarm.

Vigilantes returning from their night patrol were alerted and intercepted the suspects as they attempted to flee. A crowd of local youths reportedly tried to seize the suspects to manhandle them, but the vigilantes ensured the suspects were secured and handed over to police.

According to Samuel, one of the men has been linked to previous thefts of valuables from other unfinished houses in the community.

A police source at the Pegi Division, who requested anonymity, confirmed the arrest and said the suspects would be transferred to the FCT Police Command for further investigation.
