Chennai city police on Friday arrested three women suspected of involvement in a child trafficking racket and rescued two children from their custody.
Acting on a tip-off from a local resident and a viral audio clip, the police conducted a covert operation. Vidya, 36, was apprehended first at Britannia Nagar in Puzhal while arriving on a two-wheeler with a male child allegedly intended for sale.
Following Vidya’s confession, police arrested the other two suspects, Rathi Devi, 39, and Deepa, 35, from a house in Menambedu near Ambattur. Both rescued children are now in protective care, and further investigation into the trafficking network is underway.
