NATHALIE, Va. (BTW21) — A 35-year-old woman from Nathalie has been arrested and charged with several felonies after allegedly wounding her husband during a shooting incident on Saturday night, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, deputies from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Halifax Police Department, responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting on Beaver Pond Road in Nathalie.

Upon arriving at the scene, authorities found a man with a gunshot wound to his leg. Halifax County Sheriff Fred S. Clark confirmed that the victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, informed deputies that his wife was responsible for the shooting. The injuries, while serious, were not believed to be life-threatening.

North Halifax Fire and Rescue personnel were dispatched to the location to provide medical assistance.

Following a thorough investigation, authorities arrested the victim’s wife, Victoria Annette Jenkins, and charged her with multiple felonies, including:

Attempted second-degree murder

Brandishing a firearm

Reckless handling of a firearm

Possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony

Malicious wounding

Sheriff Clark stated that the shooting appeared to be the result of a domestic dispute, and assured the public that the incident did not pose a broader threat to the community.

Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation by deploying a K-9 unit trained to detect firearms. Officers later discovered a .22-caliber rifle approximately 150 yards from the residence, hidden in a brush pile. Investigators believe this rifle was used in the shooting.

Jenkins has been taken into custody at Blue Ridge Regional Jail, where she is being held without bond. Her first court appearance is set for Tuesday.

Sheriff Clark thanked the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, the Halifax Police Department, and North Halifax Fire and Rescue for their support during the investigation and response.

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
