MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Victor Peeler, 22, was arrested Tuesday following a violent shooting incident targeting Memphis police officers in Downtown Memphis. The Memphis Police Department (MPD) charged Peeler with 12 counts of attempted first-degree murder and reckless endangerment.

The arrest was carried out without incident by the MPD Fugitive Task Force in coordination with the U.S. Marshals Service. Authorities described Peeler as a dangerous fugitive who showed no regard for the safety of officers and the community.

According to court documents and the arrest affidavit, officers at the Downtown Crime Center observed a disturbance unfold at the intersection of Peabody Place and Rufus Thomas Boulevard. When about a dozen officers approached the scene, someone inside a black Nissan Juke fired multiple shots from the rear driver’s side window toward the officers.

The affidavit reveals that officers had to quickly take cover as bullets struck near their location. One bullet was reported to have landed near the front of the Holiday Inn, just behind the officers.

Surveillance footage confirmed that Peeler entered the Nissan’s rear driver’s side seat just moments before the shooting began.

Memphis Police Chief CJ Davis acknowledged the critical partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service, calling it key to apprehending this violent fugitive and enhancing public safety in Memphis.
