Nairobi, Kenya – Police in Nairobi have arrested three individuals linked to a notorious phone theft syndicate during an intelligence-led operation in the Central Business District (CBD).
According to a statement released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, August 6, detectives from the Central Police Station apprehended Victor Kimani, a prime suspect in a series of mobile phone thefts, as he was tampering with IMEI numbers on stolen phones—an attempt to mask their identity and avoid recovery.
Following a brief interrogation, Kimani led officers to Intermark Business Centre, where two of his alleged accomplices, Marvine Wangundo and Jeremiah Njoroge, were also arrested.
“The suspects are believed to be part of a larger syndicate targeting unsuspecting members of the public within the Nairobi CBD and its environs,” the DCI said.
Authorities recovered multiple stolen mobile phones during the operation and are continuing investigations to trace more suspects and victims. The DCI emphasized that efforts to dismantle organized phone theft operations in the city remain ongoing.
