Abeokuta, Ogun State — The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Victor Cletus, a 28-year-old cleaner, for impersonating a doctor, defrauding a young woman, and sexually assaulting her under the guise of being a surgeon.
Police Spokesperson CSP Omolola Odutola said the arrest followed a report from the victim, who revealed that Cletus had contacted her on Snapchat, claiming to be a surgeon at Babcock University Teaching Hospital.
Believing his fabricated credentials, the victim confided in Cletus about a medical issue involving a lump in her right breast. The suspect then demanded money as a supposed operation fee and instructed her to meet him for a surgical procedure on Nov. 18.
Instead of providing medical care, Cletus allegedly sexually abused the victim and withdrew money from her Opay account. The victim grew suspicious when the suspect continued requesting sexual favors without performing any examination.
Upon independently contacting the hospital, the victim discovered that Cletus was not a surgeon but a cleaner at the facility. She reported the incident, and Cletus was promptly arrested.
Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo condemned the offence and warned that anyone using social media to deceive or harm others would be arrested and prosecuted. He urged young women to be cautious online and avoid sharing personal or medical information with strangers.
The Ogun State Police reaffirmed its commitment to identifying and prosecuting individuals who impersonate professionals or exploit social media to commit crimes.
