JACKSON, Miss. — Verneshia Cody, owner of TDK Accounting and Tax Services, was arrested for allegedly submitting fraudulent documents to the Mississippi Department of Health to obtain funds for personal use, the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor reported.
Special agents from the auditor’s office took Cody into custody. Specific charges have not yet been disclosed.
The auditor’s office claims Cody misappropriated sub-grant funds, submitting fraudulent invoices, improper expense claims, and counterfeit checks to secure money intended for legitimate programs.
Cody could face up to 10 years in prison and fines up to $10,000 if convicted.
State Auditor Shad White praised investigators’ efforts, stating, “Our investigators worked tirelessly to uncover this scheme. We will continue working with prosecutors to hold people accountable and ensure tax dollars are spent properly.”
