A man from Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested and jailed for allegedly murdering his father with a sharp weapon and disposing of the body in a nearby forest, police reported on Sunday.
The accused, Vedpal, is said to have killed his father, Ishwar, by slitting his throat with a shovel during a heated argument. According to officials, Vedpal claimed the motive for the crime stemmed from a domestic dispute, specifically alleging that Ishwar had an illicit relationship with his daughter-in-law, Vedpal’s wife.
Vedpal further asserted that due to the affair, Ishwar, who worked as a laborer, gave all of his earnings to his daughter-in-law while refusing to provide Vedpal with the financial support needed to pay off his bank loan. To divert suspicion, Vedpal initially filed a complaint against unidentified individuals.
“Ishwar, a resident of Basoud village and a laborer by profession, was murdered by his son on Friday evening. Upon receiving the news, police arrived at the scene, conducted a post-mortem on the body, and saw that the victim’s son had lodged a case against unknown persons,” said Additional Superintendent of Police, N.P. Singh.
However, investigators soon suspected that the murderer was someone close to Ishwar. As suspicions mounted, police detained Vedpal for questioning, during which he confessed to the crime and explained the motive behind the murder, Singh added.
