In a high-profile narcotics bust, three individuals including two foreign-educated brothers were arrested by the Excise Department’s Special Task Force (STF) in Hyderabad. The accused — Varun Chaitanya, Prabhu Chaitanya, and their accomplice Kiran — were found in possession of 2.58 grams of MDMA and 38.56 grams of OG Kush, a potent cannabis strain.
Varun and Prabhu, who hold advanced degrees including a barrister qualification from London, were allegedly lured into the drug trade through connections made with Nigerian nationals during their time abroad. Investigations revealed that the duo regularly traveled to Bengaluru to procure MDMA and OG Kush and then sold the substances in Hyderabad with Kiran’s assistance.
The accused reportedly led extravagant lifestyles, often hosting lavish “raja saab” style parties, oblivious to STF surveillance.
When confronted by the STF near a suspected drug handoff point, the trio tried to resist arrest. Female Sub-Inspector Sandhya and a constable were attacked during the scuffle. However, the STF quickly overpowered and apprehended them.
Authorities also seized three mobile phones and a motorbike. A case has been registered, and the accused are under custody. Further investigation is underway into their network, including links to drug peddlers from Nigeria and interstate suppliers.
