At least 11 gamblers were arrested in Keshripur, Varanasi, during a late-night raid conducted by the Special Operation Group-2 (SOG-2) under the Rohaniya police station on Wednesday.
According to DCP (Crime) T Saravanan, the operation was carried out based on a tip-off regarding illegal gambling activities at a local campus. Police seized Rs4.81 lakh in cash, 13 mobile phones, and four decks of playing cards during the raid.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
Shyambali, Raju Sonkar, Satendra Kumar, Anand Kumar Upadhyay, Santosh Kumar, Hariram, Ramdular Singh, Ravishankar, Raju Kumar, Kitabuddin, and Anurag Golu Tiwari.
The SOG-2, established by Commissioner of Police Mohit Agrawal, has been actively targeting unethical and illegal activities in the city, including sex rackets at apartments and spa centres, as well as illegal gambling dens.
Authorities have confirmed that the arrested individuals will face charges under relevant sections of the law for gambling and related offenses, with further investigations ongoing to identify organizers or larger networks.
