Varinderpal Singh Arrested for Rape at Edinburgh Gas Station

Victim reported assault at rural Indiana business early Sunday

EDINBURGH, Ind. (WISH) — A gas station attendant in rural Bartholomew County has been arrested on a preliminary charge of rape following a reported assault early Sunday morning.

According to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Johnson County Memorial Hospital in Franklin after staff reported that a woman had come in claiming she was sexually assaulted at a gas station near Pleasant View Village, just south of Edinburgh.

The incident allegedly occurred around 3:20 a.m. Sunday inside the station located in the 13000 block of North U.S. 31.

The suspect, Varinderpal Singh, 24, was taken into custody shortly after the report and placed on a 72-hour investigative hold in jail. As of Tuesday night, online court records had not yet reflected formal charges.

The sheriff’s office has not released further details, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation. The gas station is located about 40 minutes southeast of downtown Indianapolis.
