In a significant operation, Uttarkashi police arrested a drug trafficker identified as Deepak Baliyan, 38, and seized 31.13 grams of smack, valued at Rs9 lakh. The arrest is part of the district’s ongoing campaign against drug trafficking.

The police had received reliable information from an informer regarding a large-scale drug trafficking attempt. Based on this tip-off, police officials conducted an extensive checking campaign in the area. During routine checks on the road leading to Dilsaud, Manera bypass in Uttarkashi, police apprehended Baliyan, a Dehradun resident originally from Uttar Pradesh.

During interrogation, Baliyan revealed that he had previously worked in a call center, where he came in contact with individuals involved in the narcotics trade. The seized smack is believed to be intended for distribution in the region.

The authorities have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigations are ongoing to uncover the broader drug trafficking network. The arrest is a part of Uttarkashi police’s continued efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
