Uttarakhand STF Arrests Murder Accused Suresh Sharma After 25 Years

Uttarakhand Police’s Special Task Force (STF) arrested Suresh Sharma (53), a fugitive wanted in a murder case dating back 25 years, from Jamshedpur on Thursday, officials said Saturday.

Sharma, a resident of Rishikesh, was charged on April 28, 1999, with the murder of district government counsel (criminal) Balkrishna Bhatt in Badrinath. The murder reportedly stemmed from a property dispute with Bhatt.

This case was one of two high-priority cases assigned to the STF at its formation in 2005, following the creation of Uttarakhand state in 2000. While the other case was resolved earlier, Sharma remained on the run until his arrest.

He was the only individual on the STF’s wanted list with a reward of Rs 2 lakh announced for information leading to his capture.
