Sharday Bakare, a Nigerian woman, has been apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Texas after being accused of the murder of her 2-year-old son. Bakare, who was arrested on Monday, June 17, faces serious charges, including first-degree murder, aggravated child neglect, and aggravated child abuse.
The incident occurred on September 4, 2023, when Memphis Police and Emergency Medical Technicians responded to a distress call at a residence in the 2600 block of Margot Street. There, they found Bakare’s son unresponsive, covered in bruises, and bleeding from his mouth. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the child later died from his injuries.
Following an investigation, U.S. Marshals located Bakare in Glenn Heights, Texas, on June 17. She was taken into custody without incident and is now awaiting extradition to Tennessee.
In a related case, Bakare’s boyfriend, Anthony Andrews, has been indicted for first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse in May 2024. He was charged after allegedly beating the child severely. Andrews remains in jail on a $250,000 bond.
Bakare reportedly entrusted Andrews with the care of her son while she slept. She later noticed bruises on the child, which Andrews claimed were from the boy falling out of bed. However, she also revealed that she had witnessed Andrews hitting the child with a belt and a braided dog toy.
The affidavit further revealed that Andrews admitted to striking the child multiple times with the dog toy, hitting him seven or eight times in the face and back. He then allegedly threw the child into a corner of the room. Shortly afterward, the child was found unresponsive and later died.
Both Bakare and Andrews face charges that have deeply shocked their community. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
