Police in Sundargarh, Odisha, arrested Urmila Kerketa for allegedly murdering her husband, Dhruba Kerketa, following a marital dispute. Urmila, from Jaisar village in Talsara, confessed during interrogation that she, with the help of two accomplices, strangled her husband to death.
Preliminary investigations revealed the crime was triggered by domestic conflict over Urmila’s illicit affair. The couple lived in rented accommodation at Hari Om colony on Mission Road, Sundargarh, and were reportedly going through a rough patch.
On Tuesday night, during a heated argument about Urmila’s affair, two youths arrived at their home. Urmila allegedly drugged Dhruba with their assistance before strangling him. Suspicion grew when Urmila took her husband’s body to the hospital, requesting the medical staff to declare a different cause of death in the postmortem report. Hospital authorities alerted police, who then took Urmila into custody.
